Creating Blank Site Collection using Central Administration and Power Shell in SharePoint 2013

Creating Blank Site Collection using SharePoint Central Administration in SharePoint 2013.

Follow the below path for creating site collection

Launch the SharePoint Central administration -> Application Management -> Create Site Collection ->scroll down and check for the Blank Site Template.

By default the Blank Site template is disabled in Central Administration. Please find the below screen shot for reference.




We need enable the blank site template in the below path.

1. Open the below path
 
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\TEMPLATE\1033\XML
2. Open the WebTemp.xml.
3. Press Control + F and Search for Blank Site you will be able to see the below Tag.
<Configuration ID="1" Title="Blank Site" Hidden="TRUE" ImageUrl="/_layouts/15/images/stbs.png?rev=23" Description="A blank site for you to customize based on your requirements." DisplayCategory="Collaboration" AllowGlobalFeatureAssociations="False" > </Configuration>

4. Change the Hidden="FALSE"  and save the file.

5. Do an IISRESET

Now Launch the Central Administration new window.

If you do not want to spend the time for making change in xml file and performing IISreset, Please use the  following Power Shell script for creating Site Collection with Blank Site template.

Add-PSSnapin "Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell"
$template = Get-SPWebTemplate "STS#1" #To get list of template details use - Get-SPwebtemplate
New-SPSite -Url "https://Sitename.com/Sites/MyBlankSite" -OwnerAlias "domain\Administrator" -Template $template
